Independent developer

Small, careful software.

I'm Oscar Zhou. I design and build products on my own — apps for iPhone and Mac, plus whatever else turns out to be interesting. I like the version where the details are right.

Work

Things I've built.

One product so far, with a couple more in the workshop. I'd rather finish one properly than ship five that mostly work.

Turns an iPhone or iPad into a wireless camera and microphone for your Mac — over the local network, with a virtual camera and virtual mic any app can use.

Approach

How I like to build.

Local first

Data should stay where it is made. My apps do their work on the device and on your own network — not in somebody else's data centre.

No accounts

No sign-up, no inbox to verify, no password to reset. Open the app and use it. What you buy belongs to your Apple account, which already exists.

Details matter

Frame pacing, audio levels, the exact wording of a button. The unglamorous parts are usually the ones you feel when they are wrong.

About

Hello from a one-person studio.

I'm an independent developer. I write the code, design the interfaces, and answer the support emails — often in the same hour. Most of what I make ends up on a phone or a laptop, but the platform is never the point.

I like problems that are small enough to finish and deep enough to be interesting: real cameras, real microphones, real-time graphics, and the unglamorous plumbing that makes them behave.

CamMicLink came from one of those problems. A Mac mini with no camera and no microphone, and a phone sitting next to it with both. Everything else I tried either uploaded my video somewhere or asked me to create an account first.

If you find a bug, want a feature, or just want to say the app is useful — email is the fastest way to reach me.
