CamMicLink for iOS, iPadOS and macOS · Last updated 23 October 2026
The short version. CamMicLink has no accounts and no servers. Your camera and microphone streams travel directly between your iPhone or iPad and your Mac on your local network. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is analysed, and nothing is sold.
1. Who we are
CamMicLink is made and published by Oscar Zhou, an independent developer ("we", "us"). For anything in this policy you can reach us at cammiclink@oscarzhou.com.
2. What we collect
Nothing. We do not collect, transmit, store or sell personal data. There is no sign-up, no account, no device identifier sent anywhere, no crash reporting service, no advertising SDK and no third-party analytics in the app.
3. Camera, microphone and local network
- Camera and microphone. Used only while you are capturing, to produce the stream your Mac receives. The stream is sent to the Mac you are connected to and nowhere else.
- Local network. The two devices find each other with Bonjour and then exchange video and audio directly over a TCP connection on your local network. No relay server is involved.
- Effects. Face detection (Apple Vision), face tracking (ARKit) and voice processing (AVAudioEngine) all run on the device. Frames are not sent to any service for processing.
4. Purchases
In-app purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple. We never see your name, payment card or billing address; Apple only tells the app whether a given product is owned. Apple's handling of that data is described in the Apple Privacy Policy.
5. What is stored on your device
The app keeps a small amount of settings data in its own container on each device — for example the chosen video tier, aspect ratio, device name, and, if you turn it on, the optional connection password. This data stays on the device, is included in your device backups if you use them, and is removed when you delete the app.
6. Third-party components
The optional virtual microphone uses BlackHole, an open-source (GPLv3) virtual audio driver by Existential Audio. CamMicLink does not bundle or distribute it: the app offers to download the official, notarised installer from existential.audio and hands it to the macOS installer at your request. Once installed, BlackHole is a system audio device used by macOS; it does not phone home.
7. Children
CamMicLink is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone, including children under 13.
8. Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to export, correct or delete. If you believe otherwise, write to cammiclink@oscarzhou.com and we will look into it.
9. Changes to this policy
If the app ever changes in a way that affects this policy, the new version will be published on this page with a new date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
